Then in 1977 Roy Race was announced temporary England Manager, he played Trev up front with Supermac and we beat Holland 5-1

Under Saunders Trev would've played right back.

:D

Some folks think Alex is too cautious - blimey - you'd think we were Barcelona if compared to a Saunders team. Dour was his manner and double dour his teams.

Couldn't agree more Midland, Saunders teams were not only dour in their approach but tried to kick/fight every other team off the pitch. Agree with Parti aswell in so much as Bell was a complete disaster, not sure who the answer was after big Fred went but it wasn't Bell!

The other thing to remember was that Saunders was first and foremost a boxing manager - it showed in his teams!!

I love reading the old stories from the 70s, if I could've gone in any era of the club it would've been then

Was good fun then Joey, used to be in the ground for 1.45 if in the main stand, all us kids used to stand at the front by the 'white wall' no one cared! If you were on the Kop or Tilton you'd always finish the game 50 yards from where you started without your feet touching the ground!! The Middlesborough quater final in '74 I actually finished the game 3/4 of the way down the Kop Stand when I started on Tilton Corner and still never touched the ground!!
